Well, first off, I need to get better at remembering to share updates! I will try harder.
We successfully navigated our first fun trip in our new home! We drove out to Houghton, MI to meet up with my parents for a week of fun in the Keweenaw. It was a week of family time, exploring, and learning. So, to start at the beginning, we drove from our home base in Minnesota to Iron River, Wisconsin for an overnight Harvest Host stay at the Iron River Airport. It was actually really fun! The Brinkley fit into the space no problem. The kids were able to see a grounded plane, as well as see another take off and land right outside our door!
Once we got to Houghton we were able to pull into the campground site next to my parents in a buddy site (where the front doors face each other instead of being in a standard row). The kids had a lot of fun touring grandma and pa’s RV – I’m told that Reya had to open every drawer just to see! We spent the weekend touring the Keweenaw peninsula. We drove up to Copper Harbor on a waterfall trip and were able to do some hiking with the kids. We had a lot of fun touring the Quincy Mine (spoiler alert: it is NOT like Minecraft because Minecraft doesn’t hold rocks to the ceiling with nets). The kids did great, even when they turned out all the lights and we couldn’t see ANYTHING.
We also walked around on the Michigan Tech campus and downtown areas. We all walked onto the Portage Canal lift bridge and the kids learned how the bridge lifts for tall boats. The whole week was a great reminder of why we wanted to step into the RV life – to be able to explore and spend time with family! We had a great time and are excited for our next fun trip exploring!
