Houghton, MI

Well, this is much delayed, so I apologize! Back in the end of July and early August, we were able to return to the Keweenaw Peninsula for a long stay. We met up with my parents who brought my nephew and niece along. The vacation started off rocky, as I slipped while setting the camper up and sent my full bodyweight directly into a slide corner via my toe. It was very broken, but I was able to walk mostly normal within a few days, so not too much harm done! We are all a bit more cautious of how slippery the floor can be.

It was SO enjoyable to watch all the cousins play together. Kai and Reya had a blast showing their cousins around on the bike (thanks Pa for riding with Dustin while I was working)! One of their favorite destinations was Chutes and Ladders, a playground resembling the nostalgic board game with stairs and slides at varying levels. The kids loved riding down the tallest one together and their squeals of joy could be heard all the way down. Kai also enjoyed the swings at sunset.

During the days and weekends we all enjoyed paddleboarding on the Portage canal. The kids took turns paddling an adult around the swim area and all did so great. It was fun for us to test out the kayaking mode on the boards too (there’s an inflatable seat and interchangeable paddle)! We were also able to take the kids to the The A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum, where they were able to see cool rocks and gemstones from around the world. Kai really enjoyed it. Of course, while in Houghton, there were several trips to the Keweenaw Brewing Company and the Ambassador for pizza and beer!

It was a wonderful time spent in a location that will always have a part of my heart with people that will always be in my heart.
