Travel Days

We’ve been travelling! From the Black Hills, we made our way to Mitchell, SD. Why? We visited the DMV to officially declare residency as South Dakotans! I needed an out of state address to continue to work remotely. We could have used my brother’s address in Michigan, or Dustin’s brother’s address in Florida, but both would have required them to contact us for mail, and Michigan would have more tax implications. It just made sense for us to get our own permanent address, and South Dakota has tax breaks, so it’s a win-win!

While at the campground, we nearly had a brush with a large class A motorhome! They were struggling to get out of their campsite (adjacent to ours) and came within an inch of our slide. Yikes! They were able to make it out without any damage, so no harm done. During one of our travels we had one of our Lectric eBike kickstand legs snap off, so Dustin had to make a temporary kickstand using our leveling blocks (which we thankfully didn’t need at any of the sites before reaching our next RV resort). This was another reminder of how tricky it can be to receive packages while constantly travelling. Thanks to the UPS Store for accepting the package for us and holding it until we arrived at our next destination! Our kickstand has now been replaced and is back to normal.

We utilized two Harvest Host locations to get us from South Dakota to Arkansas. The first was Slattery Vintage Estates, a beautiful vineyard off the beaten path in Nebraska. I did a wine tasting and got to try six Nebraska wines, which were all pretty good. The kids enjoyed walking around their small garden and picking a few tomatoes, peppers, and a melon (all with host permission!). Dustin and I woke before the sun with the rooster’s call, but it was a very nice stay overall.

The second Harvest Host was Missouri Northern Pecan Growers in Missouri. This was just a storefront parking lot. Dustin was able to shop for some really good pecans in the morning, including chocolate covered pecans, pecan brittle, smoked pecans, spicy pecans, and a jar of candied jalapenos from the local Mennonite community. All were delicious! In the morning we continued our journey down to Arkansas. We took two very quick stops across two states, but both were great!
