Birthing Cave

We had to do one last Sedona hike before leaving Arizona. We went back to attempt the hike we tried to do last time: the Birthing Cave. It was a relatively short hike from the road to the cave with some pretty desert vegetation along the way. Once we reached the cave we had to climb up a pretty steep incline. Kai and Reya did GREAT! Kai is a little spider and had no issues. Reya was scared but so brave. She made it all the way up by herself!

Once inside the cave we were rewarded with STUNNING views of Sedona. The legend behind this cave is that the Hopi (tribe native to Arizona) felt they were born from the earth, so they sent their pregnant women to give birth inside the cave due to its resemblance to a woman’s womb. After having done the hike while not pregnant, I don’t know if I believe that story, but the cave does bear a pretty strong resemblance! Getting down was smooth sailing as well. Reya was terrified to go down, so she turned on “daddy robot” and was escorted down in daddy’s secure grip. Kai spider-walked down the steep parts and walked the rest. The only minor incident was when one of our friends slid down a particularly smooth section of the trail and almost grabbed a cactus for support. She stopped herself in time, though!

All in all, this was an incredible experience and we would absolutely recommend it to hikers passing through the area. Beautiful views, easy hike, fun climbing.
