San Diego

While we were in Menifee, CA, we took a day trip over to San Diego. We got to visit La Jolla Cove where we were able to see the sea lions take over the beach area. It was interesting to see them in their natural habitat, sunning themselves and swimming. I’ve never seen a sea lion run before, so that was pretty cool! We got to see lots of little pups learning to climb out of the water onto rocks. Reya thought they were cute until the winds changed and she declared the whole area “too stinky”. We could also see fish swimming in the water near the boardwalk.

After we got to see the sea lions we went to Old Town San Diego. This area was really fun to visit. There were old buildings that had been converted into small shops that you could walk through with a beautiful, green courtyard in the middle of them all. The kids had fun climbing some of the trees, and Reya tried to quiz us by covering an informational plaque. We went to Old Town for lunch at a Mexican place that was recommended to us by friends. Turns out they also have a giant margarita that we obviously had to order! The food was good and the kids enjoyed their meals (Reya had traditional chicken tenders).

The next stop was Point Loma for the Cabrillo National Monument and the historic old Point Loma Lighthouse. The Cabrillo monument offered beautiful panoramic views of the harbor and lots of sailboats. The old Point Loma Lighthouse is a refurbished lighthouse from the 1850s. It was fun to bring the kids up into the lighthouse and show them the room that the lighthouse keeper’s children slept in, their kitchen (no microwave!), and their small living area. There was also a small garden that the kids enjoyed looking through. Of course, they also had to play with the buttons on the lighthouse display before we left.

Overall it was a great day touring just a fraction of San Diego. The weather was great, the company was amazing, and we definitely felt our blessings.
