Freezing in NM

After the girls weekend we spent a few days at Lake Conroe in Texas before realizing there was a winter storm headed across the southern half of the country. So we said goodbye and left a few days early for our next destination. We had a Harvest Host overnight in Sweetwater, TX where we left early enough to beat the beginning of the storm on Friday morning. We then made it safely to New Mexico. Upon arrival it was just rain, so we were able to get set up and hunker down. The rain froze overnight as temps dropped, reaching a nice high of about 18 degrees on Saturday. Saturday evening brought snow with 1 degree temps overnight. So cold! Temps didn’t get above freezing until midday Wednesday before dropping overnight. So we had several days of freezing rain, cold, and snow before finally getting to where we didn’t need to be really concerned.

Are you curious how the Brinkley did in the freezing temps? Turns out, very well! We did use a good bit of propane for the furnace so the underbelly wouldn’t get cold enough to freeze. We didn’t leave any hoses connected so we didn’t need to worry about the sewer hoses or water hose freezing or getting damaged. We did have electrical plugged in because that helped our fireplace and space heater heat the home! The local propane place to the campground is closed on Saturday and Sunday, however, so when we dipped too low, Dustin drove a over an hour round trip to get propane so we didn’t freeze. Overall we did just fine and the kids LOVED seeing snow again. I hope they enjoyed it, because we don’t plan on being stuck in temps like these for a very long time!
