Center of the World

While we were in Winterhaven we realized we were near the Center of the World. Obviously we had to stop by! Before, though, we visited a date farm. We’ve seen lots of palm trees on our travels and before visiting Palm Springs, CA (full of palm trees), we figured it would be a fun way to learn about nature. We visited Martha’s Gardens, where Reya and I were able to try some dates (dried, in a date milkshake, and in small candies) and see how they grow on the palm trees.

THEN we headed to the Center of the World. This spot was legally marked as the Center of the World in 1985 because the man who owned the land declared it so. Reya and I were able to stand on the official plaque within the pyramid where it’s housed. We also walked to the chapel in the back of the property. This is the “highest point in Felicity”. Seeing as how this hill was man-made, I’d say the guy who created this spot (and declared the Center of the World) was a bit full of himself. It’s cool to experience, nonetheless!

Among the property is also The History of Humanity in Granite. This was my favorite part, though we didn’t get to read or experience much of it with the relentless sunshine and heat. This is a lot of world history (and US history, and California history) that’s been etched into large granite chunks in a circular shape. We even got to see part of one of the history lessons in progress. Super cool to see how it’s done! Overall this was definitely a tourist trap, but we enjoyed it. If you’re in the area, it’s worth a stop.
