We just left our latest destination: South Lake Tahoe. Our first hike in the Tahoe area was Emerald Bay. This was so beautiful. The water is a beautiful clear turquoise. The trees are a vibrant green, especially with the sunshine filtering through the leaves. We came across bright snow plants (brilliant red parasites that live on tree roots in the pacific northwest) and western fence lizards during the hike. Kai and Reya enjoyed the hike by looking for unique sticks and branches. We also saw a bald eagle nest with two eagles perched at the top. Such a great experience!

During our hike we could also see to Fannette Island, which is the only island in Lake Tahoe. From our vantage point up above we could easily see the Tea House on the island (built in the late 1920s by a private owner). Along the way we saw the biggest pinecone any of us have ever seen and Dustin gave an impromptu science lesson with the pinecone sap. This was a beautiful hike for a beautiful day. We definitely recommend it!
