Our latest stop was Crescent City, near the Redwoods National Park. Our first hike in the area was the Grove of Titans and let me tell you, it was incredible! This was our first chance to see some old growth redwood trees and they truly were giants. The drive back to the trailhead was even beautiful, though slightly nerve wracking because there were parts where the dually barely fit (especially if we had to pass another vehicle). Kai and Reya enjoyed taking photos on a large tree that had fallen into the path and looking close up at some of the tree bark and ferns.

Speaking of all the ferns, it was a great opportunity for a hands-on science class! The kids got to see and feel the underside of ferns where their reproduction process occurs. We also got to see a small salamander scurry across our path and lots of spotted centipedes all over the forest floor that Kai loved seeing. Part of the trail led us underneath tree roots and next to another tree that had fallen. We enjoyed ducking under and using a flashlight to explore the cool, dark underside of the tree roots for some more out-of-the-box learning.

Overall this hike was breathtaking and both the adults and children enjoyed it and learned from it! If you stop by the Redwoods, definitely check out the Grove of Titans hike!
