Our latest travels have taken us to Seaside, Oregon. While here we did a few fun things, like visit the Seaside Aquarium with friends where Reya and Kai were able to touch starfish and anemones! We also hiked the Indian Beach Trail from Ecola State Park to Indian Beach. We met up for a friend’s birthday at Del Rey Beach for a fort building competition. Kai and Reya were each teamed up with an older kid and they all did great! Each fort won a different category.

Another exploring day took us to the Peter Iredale wreck, which is a steel ship that ran aground in 1906 in strong winds while waiting for a pilot to guide them past the mouth of the river. It’s significantly weathered in the 120 years it has sat on the beach, but it was really cool to see. We didn’t stay long, as the beach was windy and cold. Then we went to Battery Russell, part of Fort Stevens that was active from 1904 to 1944. Fun fact: Battery Russell (and Fort Stevens) was the first military base to be attacked by foreigners on US soil since the war of 1812. This was a really cool piece of history to visit!
