Haystack Rock

Our final adventure in Oregon was visiting Cannon Beach on a rainy morning to see marine life in the tide pools. We got to see lots of starfish, including a baby purple sea star wrapped around a barnacle. We learned that when they’re wrapped around something it means they’re feeding. So this little guy is helping to maintain the balance of the ecosystem by reducing barnacles!

We learned about the tide, how it moves, and how dangerous it can be. We also saw a lot of birds flying around Haystack Rock. We didn’t see any puffins up close, though we did see a statue of one near our parking spot! This was a cold, rainy morning, but we all had fun and learned something new. We topped off the adventure with a trip to the nearby Sea Level Bakery for coffee, juices, and breakfast pastries. Overall, a good morning indeed.
